Young Editorial Board Member Wanted at Astronomical Techniques and Instruments

We are recruiting!

In order to increase the engagement of the editorial board with the community at large, the Astronomical Techniques and Instruments (ATI) is recruiting Young Editorial Board Members (EBMs). This is a collaborative editorial model in which Young EBMs review manuscripts in their areas of expertise alongside the editorial team. The Young EBM will work closely with the other editors to ensure that all manuscripts are subject to the same editorial standards and journal policies.

Who are we looking for?

Professionals with a passion for open access, data sharing, innovation in scientific publishing, and a drive to be an advocate for their field. Individuals with significant expertise in the area of the ATI's scope are welcome; individuals early in their careers who have made significant contributions to their field in an effort to be more inclusive of the community as a whole, are also qualified candidates.

Qualifications

  • At least four years of experience working in areas related to the applied journal;
  • Having published at least five peer-reviewed papers on the topic related to the applied journal;
  • Having the rank of associate professor or higher, or has an equivalent position in their field;
  • The applicant with experience as an editor or similar position is preferred.

Benefits and responsibilities

The young editor will work closely with the other editors in soliciting and evaluating manuscripts and managing the peer review process. The Young EBM is responsible for the scientific quality of the manuscripts received. He/she will adhere to the ethos, editorial standards, policies and scope of the journal, and ensure that manuscripts are handled in a professional, efficient and proper manner.

The Young EMB will have access to training modules to help develop your editorial skills, and our in-house editorial and administrative team will be on hand to provide additional support as needed.

Main responsibilities of Editorial Board Members

  • Pre-screening and deciding on new submissions related to your research interests;
  • Create at least one special issue during your term on a topic related to your research interests (or oversee special issues related to your research area);
  • Invite senior experts to write reviews for the journal and solicit articles for professionals, including young experts;
  • Provide input or feedback on journal policies;
  • Help to promote the journal among your peers or at conferences;
  • Attend board meetings;
  • Review manuscripts.

  • Expand your knowledge of your field by being exposed to new research, and the expertise of your peers;
  • Raise your profile and advance your career by being an active participant in your field through your contribution to the journal and communication with authors, reviewers, and fellow editors;
  • Get a behind-the-scenes look at how editorial decisions are made at ATI and the peer review process;
  • Expand your research network by working with the other EBMs of the journal;
